Easter Sunday was a bust.
I don't know who came up with the idea that hiding easter eggs and filling baskets full of candy would be a great way of celebrating Easter on sunday mornings before church. Stupid if you ask me. A couple of years ago I remember thinking the idea was stupid, so we told the girls that the Easter Bunny wasn't real. They had already figured out that Santa and the Tooth Fairy was a big fat lie, so I was stunned with the reaction I received.
Aubreigh started to cry and said to me, "You just took all the magic out of my life!-Thanks alot!"
Lainey was also upset. Like, it's obvious that Santa isn't real, but a 7 foot tall bunny that goes around and leaves eggs at peoples' houses is so much easier to believe. Taytum -well, I think it all went over Taytum's head.
This year, however, because Keaton was 2 we thought it would be fun having him wake up to the Easter Bunny surprise. Mistake. Now, don't get me wrong. Keaton enjoyed himself looking for the eggs and eating his jellybeans. But between all the candy, the fighting over who's egg was who's, and mom and dad being exhausted from staying up too late- where was the spirit of Easter? We tried to read the Easter story out of the scriptures, but it ended up being a big battle. We made it late to church, missed the sacrament, and then-completely frazzled out of my mind, I had to teach the Relief Society Lesson on Good, Better, and Best- choosing to focus on the most important things in life. Hypocrite.
Needless to say, the Easter Bunny is dead. We will be doing fun egg hunts and coloring eggs on other days, but Easter Sunday will reserved for our Savior and nothing else. The way it should be.
I am going to take from the good, the bad, and the ugly of this year's Easter and only remember the best things. I want to remember all the ways our Savior has blessed us. I want to remember His sacrifice. I want to remember how important it is to show our love for Him. Remember, remember to be at my best whenever I can. Especially on Sunday.
I will also be remembering how sweet Kanyon looked all dressed up in his Easter duds. He probably remembers better than any of us who Easter is all about.
What is your Sunday best?
